What Is Agnihotra?

Agnihotra is the basic Homa fire technique, based on the bio-rhythm of sunrise and sunset, and can be found in the ancient sciences of the Vedas. In the Vedas, the central theme in regard to the purification of the atmosphere is described as:

"Heal the Atmosphere and the Atmosphere Will Heal You."

Agnihotra has been simplified and adapted to modern times, so anybody can perform it.

During Agnihotra, dried cow dung, ghee (clarified butter) and brown rice are burned in an inverted, pyramid-shaped copper vessel, along with which a special mantra (word-tone combination) is sung.

For Agnihotra, only whole kernels of rice should be used - preferably unpolished or brown whole-grain rice. When rice kernels are broken, their chemical composition may remain the same, but the structure of their subtle energies is disrupted. For this reason, the ancient science of bio-energy says that such rice kernels should not be used for this healing Agnihotra fire. In addition, rice has a balancing, Yin and Yang effect. Many etheric oils are set free (dispersed) through the burning process, and chemical reactions for the healing of the atmosphere are put in action.

The mantras sung at sunrise and sunset are in resonance with a bio-rhythm. The sounds sung activate special vibrations which produce a particular healing atmosphere and positively affect the human disposition. Through mantras (1) everything can be activated and positively transformed. Each thing, or phenomenon, has a particular sound / vibration pattern. Sanskrit is considered a perfect language because the pronunciation of any word is identical to its cosmic sound / vibration pattern. The word content is identical to the word tone. When mantras are sung (together with the fire techniques), the vibrations of the mantras are contained in the ash. As a carrier of these vibrations, the ash becomes very effective in its various applications in the fields of medicine, gardening, farming, and forestry.

Through burning
organic substances in a pyramid-formed copper vessel, valuable purifying and harmonizing energies arise. These are directed into the atmosphere and are also contained in the remaining ash. This highly energized ash is very successfully employed as organic fertilizer in farming at Homa-Hof Heiligenberg.

For the procedure of the healing Agnihotra fire, a
copper pyramid of prescribed form is used. Copper and gold are the only metals that have healing properties, according to knowledge of all ancient traditions. According to the science of Homa therapy, there is only a minimal difference between the healing properties of gold and copper when they are in the pyramid-shaped form in which the Agnihotra fire is performed. The pyramid form and the copper act as a generator of negative ions when the necessary components are burned; these ions have a harmonizing effect on the environment and a positive effect on the well-being of people.

The special importance of sunrise and sunset is described in the Vedic scriptures:

At sunrise, the many fires, electricities, ethers and more subtle energies emanating from the sun extend all the way to the earth and produce a flooding effect at those coordinates where the sun is said to rise. This flood of life-sustaining energies (prana) enlivens and purifies everything in its path, destroying what is impure in its wake - it causes all life to rejoice. At sunrise it can be heard as music. The morning Agnihotra mantra is the essence of that music.

Agnihotra is easy to learn and can be practiced by anybody. It benefits the wellbeing of the environment, the entire earth, and oneself. At the Homa Farm in Heiligenberg
you can learn to perform this fire technique free of charge and, if needed, acquire the necessary supplies at favorable prices. You are most welcome to visit us.

About the Meaning of the Mantras (Horst Heigl)

Sunrise:
"Surjaje swaha.“ “Light (beyond the Light), I offer you everything.”
In this mantra, the common translation "sun" for
Surya is not applicable. Sanskrit words can have a variety of meanings, which an initiate knows to interpret in the proper manner. In this case, Surya means sunlight (symbolic for visible light), though the light beyond the sunlight is revered - in other words, the inexplicable Highest Light.
“Idam na mama.” “Thy Will be done.”
“Pradschapataje swaha.” “Lord of Man, I offer you everything.”
“Pradschapataje idam na mama.” “Lord of Man, Thy Will be done.”

Sunset:
"Agnaje swaha.“ “Light (beyond the Light), I offer you everything.”
Agni relates to the Holy Creative Fire, symbolically however, to the light that is invisible. There is a visible, material and an invisible, subtle fire. Both of them give light. Love corresponds mainly to the subtle fire. Both invisible and visible light are essential components of all Creation.
“Idam na mama.” “Thy Will be done.”
“Pradschapataje swaha.” “Lord of Man, I offer you everything.”
“Pradschapataje idam na mama.” “Lord of Man, Thy Will be done.”
